Local Business Glow Up Series

Part Two: Reimagining a motel in Port Lincoln

There’s something I love about older motels.

Not because they’re perfect, but because so many of them already have the bones of something memorable. A great location. Nostalgia. Character. A sense of place.

What they’re often missing is consistency.

That’s exactly what inspired Part Two of my Local Business Glow Up Series, where I conceptually reimagined a local Motel in Port Lincoln through branding, styling and realistic visual updates.

This wasn’t about knocking down walls or turning it into a luxury resort.

It was about showing how thoughtful branding and cohesive design choices can completely shift the way a business is perceived, without changing the structure itself.

The Goal

The vision for this concept was:

  • Affordable but elevated

  • Coastal without feeling cliché

  • Trendy but still approachable

  • A motel people would actually want to photograph, share and book

Instead of trying to make it “luxury”, I leaned into what modern travellers actually love:

  • clean and calming spaces

  • strong visual identity

  • memorable details

  • cohesive online presence

  • an experience that feels intentional

What Was Included In The Concept Glow Up

For this concept, I created:

  • A refreshed coastal-inspired brand identity

  • Updated exterior colour concepts

  • Signage and facade styling

  • Reception redesign concepts

  • Room refreshes

  • Bathroom updates

  • Balcony and rooftop terrace concepts

  • Custom key tags and stationery

  • Merchandise and takeaway-style branded pieces

  • Website homepage concepts

  • Online booking mockups

  • Social-ready visual assets

Every touchpoint was designed to feel connected.

Because branding isn’t just a logo.

It’s how a business feels from the moment someone discovers you online to the moment they walk through the door.

Why This Matters For Local Businesses

A lot of local businesses assume they need massive renovations or huge budgets to feel more premium.

Most of the time, they don’t.

Often the biggest transformation comes from:

  • clarity

  • consistency

  • better visual communication

  • stronger customer experience

  • strategic styling decisions

The difference between “dated motel” and “cool coastal stay” can sometimes be as simple as:

  • better colour palettes

  • updated signage

  • intentional styling

  • cohesive branding

  • improved photography

  • elevated online presence

Perception matters.

And perception is shaped through branding.

Want To Create Something Like This For Your Business?

This exact type of transformation is what I help business owners work through inside my branding and website services, as well as through The Collective Clubhouse.

The Collective Clubhouse is designed for small business owners who want ongoing creative direction, strategy and support without feeling like they have to figure everything out alone.

Inside, we work through things like:

  • branding refinements

  • website direction

  • customer experience

  • visual consistency

  • content ideas

  • marketing touchpoints

  • packaging and signage concepts

  • DIY improvements that create real impact

Because sometimes you don’t need a complete rebuild.

You just need someone to help you see the potential in what’s already there.
